The Simien Mountains

This is a vast highland plateau with altitudes ranging between 1900m and 4543 at its peak, Dar Rashen.  It  is located 850km from Addis Abeba and 130 km from Gondar, the gateway to the park being the town of Debark.

The dramatic scenery of gigantic cliffs, towering battlements of flat-topped ambas, dog-tooth towers and great escarpments is a scenic wonder.  A haven to many endemic species of wildlife and flora, including the Gelada baboon and Walia Ibex, the Simien National Park has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
